Bassline Entertainment is an educational program that uses the medium of Hip-Hop music and culture to help students realize the importance of education and to develop skills associated with “cultural capital”. In addition to the acquisition of skills, Bassline Entertainment sees urban youth as important community leaders whose “Hip-Hop Literacy” constitutes an important social resource. As young people who have the ability to write and perform creatively, their music and performances can be used to help other young people to listen to and to take seriously positive social and educational messages. Therefore, Bassline Entertainment is also a performance group that uses Hip-Hop literacy skills to compose and perform music that speaks to many issues and challenges faced by young people and supports young people in their effort to overcome them.
