Lyrics
The Moment I Knew
Words and Music by Marc Meyers
One Summers night, on a dark dusty street,
the crickets were singing, fireflies dancing free
I wa carrying my burden, my own heavy load
to a sign saying welcome to Eternity Road.
Voices from somewhere wanted to set me free,
the voices became one, startling me.
The voice I knew well, only a pale blue light could I see,
it was my own dear mother, swaying in the breeze.
Tell me my son, what brings you here?
I told her, with a sigh, I think its my fear,
To deal with some regrets, some old and some new,
face down the past, the pain and sadness too.
Can we dance dear mama, cant our dreams come true?
Down the mists of time, to when the world was new.
Its all you, swaying to the beat of the truth,
all our family and friends here, to celebrate you.
The burden I carry, are my tears for you,
will there be peace for me, is there peace for you?
Yes you had demons you carried all your life,
yet you cared for us all, with a sadness wound tight.
My mind is lost and my thoughts are narrow,
mama how do I even begin to shed my sorrow?
When we last saw each other, no message was saved,
the pain of my loss, it was understanding I craved.
Mama smiled and said, my son the secret to it all,
take my love, will you, and stand up tall.
Theres no need for anger, theres no need for blame,
theres nothing to prove, each just causes pain.
Know yourself well, my son, its always been there for the taking,
but most of all follow your path, and rely on infinite awakening.
So lets dance one last dance, to us my son,
to the dreams we all had then, for all the days
that may come.
To no more anger, nor reason to blame, theres truly
nothing to prove and no reason for shame.
So now there are no ghosts here, nothing more to see,
she kissed my forehead and flashed her eyes at me.
Mama opened her arms warmly, felt my pain slip away,
she laughed in her joy as we began to sway.
Now I find myself back, standing in the rain,
I could barely see out, reeling from the strain.
A fog rolled in, yet a clarity broke through,
I looked up to the sky, and to the moment I knew.
So heres to my dear mother, always the queen of the show,
she was larger than life, her spirit still glows.
Like the tree of life, where the spirit never dies,
the bright light of salvation in the starlit Summer skies.
One can dream of the past, and to the future too,
Lao said a thing can be small, if something else is huge.
The basis for existence is simple and its true,
these words came to me the moment I knew.
