Is there life on Earth?
prog progressive rock
Artist picture
Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Written and recorded especially for the Clickers Club Clickurious challenge, September 2020. As we launch several missions to Mars, in search of Life, I wondered how many other red planets we'd exhausted over the aeons..... Always a tricky thing with these power ballads - you've no idea how hard it is to resist the key change. But I did it - it may sound like there is one, but there isn't.
Lyrics
We dreamed of a different land A far fabled place Ancestral homeworld A tiny light across space With ice-caps and glaciers Wide oceans blue Tales told for millennia Could they be true? Well I rode the red desert Through the valleys of ash Searching for evidence Of life before the flash They told us it never happened It always was thus Just science fiction What happened to us Dreamer, awake! Time to make haste O dreamer, awake Time to waste 1000 generations To regain starflight We had to overcome gravity And subjugate time Then we took to the heavens In our galleons of desire Falling from distant virgin skies Like angelical fire Dreamer, awake! Time to make haste O dreamer, awake Time to lay waste This was our last card, our last chance to survive, Last new beginning, last ray of life. Achieved the impossible with this distance flown: Conquered all nature, except for our own We didn't find glaciers or wide oceans blue, Just another red world - one we once knew. This was our desolation from aeons before - We'd found every last planet and ruined them all Dreamer, awake! Time to make haste O dreamer, awake No time to waste

It is no secret, that I am a huge fan, Steve! I have been missing your songs, that always hit me right in the gut. This one is no exception. Great lyrics and your voice has this tone of suppressed pain, that makes one believe every word you sing. Add to that great musical skills and great ideas.. What can I say? Another favourite for sure!
