Martin Stirrup Singer/songwriter An old folkie who got back into it... These days I sing and play guitar(s) and other stringed instruments, then score and orchestrate where appropriate. My taste becomes increasingly eclectic ranging from finger-picked folk through country to soft rock mixed in with a few more alternative and eccentric numbers, including the odd novelty foxtrot...

Story behind the song
This whole writing/recording malarkey (re)started in 2003 when I was stuck in Bahrain airport overnight before flying into Beirut (it's a long story...) This time it was on the way home from 6 weeks holiday in the Himalayas and there were more people about - making me muse on the contradictions of the place.
Lyrics
G Stuck in Bahrain again, middle of the night D Long day travelling looking a fright, but hey… F C G This time I’m on my way back home Stuck in Bahrain again, waiting for my muse Too many people here but nothing to lose, ‘cos hey… This time I’m on my way back home C Bb C Bb Little girl here, just a slip, G F G F Playing mama with a baby on her hip C Bb C Bb Burkad mother looking on D F D C D C D C Bb At the Chinese card school going on strong Win a Porsche or go and pray God or mammon, either way, but hey.. This time I’m on my way back home Instrumental verse & break Beef bacon, whisky duty free There goes the sheik of Araby, but good for me This time I’m on my way back home Hijab fashionistas dripping gold Seems to run contrary to all I’ve been told But hey, this time I’m on my way back home It’s not so much that it seems strange to me Just a little contradictory I guess we all like to bend the rules If only to prove that we’re nobody’s fools Repeat verses 1&2 & last section twice
