Lyrics
The last conscious thought fades away I find myself falling deep into sleep Unaware of the world Lost for a while in an odd kind of Zen Knowing the unknown Saying what’s never said Seeing the unseen This journey is in my head Taking the long way Through an eternal night Floating in time and space This moment will never die As I lay on my pillow, head in the skyline Under the willow, over the star shine Only a moment, longer than endless time There is no point There is no promise There is no movement or design Let go of things that bring me out Break all the strings that hold me down Going my own way Without really knowing how Leading me nowhere But everywhere at once Not really making sense As it goes to extremes Losing reality Forever imagining… That I lay on my pillow, head in the skyline Under the willow, over the star shine Only a moment, suddenly undefined And when it’s gone, the scene turns to gray And like a chameleon unaware of the change This could be far beyond the pale Or it could be nothing at all One conscious thought finds a way in And then another Caught in between, more aware of the world Will much of this be recalled in the end?

The music is progressively complex and intriguing and leaves me amazed how Matt manages to design such strong vocal melodies over such shifting chords/keys. The mixing/mastering is outstanding, the lyrical theme fits so nicely, it's easy to bathe in the mezmerizing backing that gently rocks you. Nice intro, percussion free for the best part of a minute. Then waiting 20 seconds or more before the bass and kick join in ..... great slow build-up. Great 'feely' lead guitar wafts across the bar lines then plays behind the vocals. Then another change of backing style without skipping a beat or anyone consciously noticing. You really have to listen hard to notice parts dropping in and out of the mix, or sometimes, like the bass, playing an important but minimal part, one long note perhaps. It's all intriguing stuff, and sounds like the equivalent of a 2000 piece jigsaw. Brilliant stuff. Keep 'em coming.

Feels like a dream to me from the beginning on, such a special way of using sounds here. Idem for the way melodies are developing, because you can't follow it's moves, going unexpected ways and being complicated. And still, it's a ballad, a beautiful one. I wonder how you did it (maybe you wonder yourself too). Like a dream, after having counted sheep.

Wonderful piece, this one. The lyrics are brilliant, depicting that strange mood of in between, when you are asleep but still conscious about the fact that you are sleeping. The music and especially the vocal melody has echoes of Pink Floyd. The dynamic changes from intro to verses and back to outro, really emphasize the words in the lyrics. Lots of details to study in this one. I wil defintely listen again :)
