Story behind the song
sometimes playing just makes you feel good to be alive - last year a challenge to write a song about magic issued by Coventry Singer Songwriters tied up with a felling of exuberance and a 175 jazz guitar was handy - hence this song - in the simple unison style generated by john Dankworth and Cleo Laine
Lyrics
Magic Just to Be Mike Carter Jones
Dm7 Whenever I G7 see your Cmj7 smiling Am7 face
Dm7 Whenever you G7 make my Cmj7 tea
Bm7 Whenever we E7 visit Am7 dear old F#m7 friends
Who Ab7 live beside the G7 sea
Dm7 Whenever I G7 hear a Cmj7 blackbird Am7 sing
From my Dm7 roof so proud E7 and free Am7 Ab7b5
Yes no Cmj7 matter Bb13 when or A7 what I Dm7 see
Its Ab7 magic G7 just to Cmj7 be (being me)
Whenever I hear a great new song
Whenever I hear you play
Whenever I see the sun peep through
From a sky of darkest grey
Whenever I hear a blackbird sing
From my roof so proud and free
Yes no matter when or what I see
Its magic just to be (being me)
The Eb9 computer sends a stream of Eb7 news
Of Ab13 friends from far C#mj7 away
With D9 pictures showing children D7 growing
Ab7 Every single G7 day
Whenever I hear a blackbird sing
From my roof so proud and free
Yes no matter when or what I see
Its magic just to be (being me)
Guitar solo 2 verses then B part and final repeat to end
