Story behind the song
I wrote this lyric after playing the open mic circuit in Nashville for a few years. It seems everyone wanted to sell a song but few were chosen. With this lyric I chose to hold Nashville hostage so to speak.
Lyrics
BUY MY SONG (sung in a country style)
1998
I wrote some rockin little dittys back when I was just a boy
I fell into some love songs full of woe and full of joy
I hate to be a bother but I've never been to coy
Raise you hand or see me later if you want to buy a song
chorus
Buy my song read the lyric
Buy my song sing along
If I don't find a record deal this could go on and on
Buy my song it's a bargain
No you can't go wrong
Don't nobody make a move until sombody buys a song
I wrote a song called "Starving" that made a grown man cry
Then I wrote "Just Stand There" about a girl with bright blue eyes
Heard a story bout a hurricane, that's "Down to Paradise"
There's ninty seven more unless sombody buys a song
My head it hurts like lightning, my back is tired and sore
My legs won't hardly carry, let me fall down to the floor
But I won't get discouraged. I keep commin back for more
I'm not leavin till I right my wrongs or someone buys a song
chorus
Yea, I'm gonna go on writing for better or for worse
Handle my affliction like a blessing not a curse
If some doctor tells me that I don't have very long
I'll say "Doctor I'm not leavin here till somebody buys a song
chorus
I'm not tryin to be no ledgend, no I'm not that kind of guy
But if you listen to my songs I'm sure there's one you'll want to buy
When I walk up to St. Peter, he'll say, "Where you been so long"
I'll say St. Peter I'm not ready yet unless you want to buy a song
chorus
Buy my song it's a bargain
No you can't go wrong
Ain't nobody leavin here till sombody buys a song
